About Hyunjun (Ryan)

Ryan is the founder of Youth Commons, dedicated to empowering youth to lead the charge in depolarizing democracy. As a senior at the Frederick Gunn School, he holds several leadership positions, revolutionizing the school’s Model UN, Journalism, Entrepreneurship, Student-Alumni Network, and Citizenship programs. Additionally, he revived The Washington Eagle, the town of Washington’s (CT) newspaper.

Beyond his school commitments, Ryan is actively involved with the All-American Model UN Team and has a deep interest in international politics. In 2022, he participated in Youth Outreach Training at the UN Headquarters in New York. This summer, he completed a research paper exploring the motivations behind youth advocacy and served as a Secretary Intern for South Korean Congressman Lee, Gae-ho. Ryan envisions Youth Commons as a universal platform where young leaders collaborate to address global challenges, reduce political polarization, and foster a more inclusive democracy. He is committed to inspiring and equipping the next generation to take meaningful action.

About Yura (Claire)

Claire, from Seoul, South Korea, leads Youth Commons at Berkshire School, striving to bring political awareness and understanding to nearby communities. She aims for Youth Commons to be an inclusive and motivational organization.
As a chapter leader for Youth Commons, Embrace Her, and ARTifact, Claire utilizes writing and research to build advanced leadership skills. Her dedication has earned her 1st place in the John Locke Essay Competition (Psychology), multiple Gold Keys for Scholastic Writing, and a finalist position in the Genius Olympiad Writing Competition. Claire believes great leadership is defined by dedication, grit, optimism, and knowledge rather than just intellectual achievements.
She looks forward to Youth Commons expanding globally to inspire students to positively impact their communities through advocacy.

About Vincy

Vincy is one of the Associate Directors of Youth Commons, coming from Manchester, Vermont (VT). She is a senior at Burr & Burton Academy, where she serves as the President of the Students of Color Alliance (SOCA) club. In this role, she has partnered with the Vermont Student Anti-Racism Network (VSARN) as well as the Rutland chapter of National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) to share the importance of racial equality in the working field and in school communities. One of the things that she cares deeply about is youth civic engagement which led her to becoming a campaign intern for the congresswomen Becca Balint. During her internship, she has organized field activities, met with local, state, and national politicians, and participated in fundraising efforts.
Vincy believes it is up to this generation to change America for the better. She wants to see a united country valuing its people and domestic policies. As a member of Youth Commons, she hopes to inspire students from all over the country to be more civically engaged.

About May

From Orange County, California, May Shen serves as the Director of Political and Social Advocacy for Youth Commons and is a junior at Sage Hill School. Committed to inspiring her generation to create meaningful social change, she co-founded the initiative and also serves as Editor-in-Chief of The Givers Guide Magazine. In this role, she has interviewed founders of key homelessness nonprofits, lawmakers focused on social safety nets, and national leaders of gun violence protests, publishing their impactful narratives. Additionally, May researches comparative politics in Democratic and Republican swing states, focusing on policies to reduce economically induced homelessness. Her artistic talents in filmmaking and mural painting, often centered on marginalized communities, have been recognized in Celebrating Art Magazine, art competitions, and statewide showcases. Through her academic and creative work, May hopes to influence future policy decisions addressing critical societal challenges.

About Lucia

Lucia Rosen is the Director of Strategy for Youth Commons and a rising junior at Phillips Exeter Academy. She was born in Mexico and, having lived in Mexico, France, and the United States, aims to bring an international perspective. At Exeter, Lucia is deeply involved in the Environmental Action Club, where she is currently working on creating an aquaponics center. She is an editor for the school science magazine MATTER. She also serves as vice chair for PEAMUN and is an active member of La Alianza Latina.
Lucia's commitment to environmental sustainability extends beyond her school activities She interned at UNESCO, working with delegates from around the world at the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, and sat in for the Executive Council Conference at UNESCO headquarters. Currently, she is working with El Humedal in Valle de Bravo, Mexico, learning about and developing sustainable water utilization and recycling methods. Lucia believes that youth can drive significant environmental change. Through her role at Youth Commons, she aims to mobilize young people to take action for a more sustainable future.

About Abi

Abibatou (Abi) Sagna is the Director of Programming for Youth Commons and a rising junior at Phillips Exeter Academy. Having lived in the U.S., Nigeria, Paris, and Egypt, Abi brings a rich global perspective to her endeavors. She is the co-founder and host of "Career Talks," a platform that demystifies various career paths for teens and young adults by connecting them with professionals from diverse fields.
Abi's commitment to social impact is evident in her extensive community service work. As a core team member of the Child2Child Book Foundation, she helped organize a book drive that successfully delivered 40,000 books to improve literacy for underprivileged children in Ghana and Togo last year. Her passion for giving back extends to her involvement with the Lagos Food Bank Initiative, where she has volunteered to support feeding programs for vulnerable communities in Lagos, Nigeria. This year, Abi further honed her professional skills by interning at a marketing firm, where she gained valuable experience in the industry. Through these diverse experiences, Abi plans to use her role at Youth Commons to drive positive change both locally and globally.

About Jade

Jade is from the Bay Area in California and is the Director of Communications at Youth Commons. She attends Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire.

She is involved in Model UN, student council, debate, dance, robotics, and journalism. She enjoys making graphics, having previously served as the Assistant Graphics Director for TedxPhillipsExeter.
In addition, in student council roles such as class president and as an outreach member in the robotics team, she is experienced with creating social media platforms for groups.

Jade is passionate about politics, and is frustrated about the current polarization in US politics. She believes youth can do a big part in social change, and is part of a political action committee called Youth for Common Sense that is dedicated to supporting and endorsing bipartisan candidates.

Jade is excited to work with Youth Commons to promote youth activism and collaboration in order to combat major issues in today’s politics.
